Falling all over again.

It's seriously autumn, folks.

Fall camping trips are over, Runtober is on its last leg, the first session of MAC Occupations has ended, and we are starting to set our sights on the Boo Ball and Upper Elementary's Historical Halloween presentations at the end of the month.

This is when we get to tuck into the meatiest part of our educational cornucopia. Montessori's long view of educating the whole child leaves a lot of room for personal growth and exploration.

Ask your child what discoveries they get excited about, and where they might like to aim next.

When we say 'education for life', we mean it. Starting October 24th, our music teacher, Kami Hettwer, will offer music classes for parents and their toddlers (aged 1-3) on Tuesdays from 9:45-10:30am.
Explore the rudiments of rhythm, rhyme, and movement in a developmentally accessible way, and share a new experience with your young one. Donations will be happily accepted to help support our music program.

Before we sign off today, we need to take a moment to applaud the heroic efforts of Elementary assistant and Spanish language teacher, Ana Sanchez Huizar.

Last weekend, while she was cheering on runners at the Portland Marathon, a man standing close to her suffered a heart attack. Ana was one of two people who administered CPR for seven minutes until EMS arrived.

As far as we know, as a result of their skilled care, he was able to survive. If you see Ana, take a moment to tell her why she's your hero.

And always, thank you for reading.

01 - 03 - Runtober 2017
Runtober
Thanks to our community of rockstars and earth-shakers, we had our best Runtober ever! Here are some fun facts:

  • Collectively, we ran over 1300 miles in one hour -- that's like running clear through California to the Mexican border!
  • We have raised over $12,000, and pledges are still rolling in, there are going to be a lot of Runtober shirt-wearers this year.

This means that we are closing in on our $15,000 goal -- don't let your foot off the gas now! You can gather pledges for a whole week until the October 20th deadline, let's see just how far we can go!

The Boo Ball is just around the corner! Get ready for an evening of spooky fun on Saturday, October 28th from 4-8pm. We will have activities, snacks, a haunted house and a pumpkin carving contest. Costumes are welcome, contact Tiffany Kallgren if you would like to help out: kallmemorr@yahoo.com

The first admission for Box Tops for Education is coming up on October 20th. This is a FREE and easy way to help our school get money. Turn your box tops in to Alex at the front desk, and thank you!

Speaking of FREE and easy ways to earn the school some money, did you know you can tie your Amazon and Fred Meyer purchases to us so those companies give us money every time you give them money? Repeat: this does not cost you anything except a brief moment of your time to set it up -- once. Click on the links above for more info.

Volunteer!
It's like all your birthdays at once.

Prepare meals in the kitchen. Choose one or more days to come in for at least two hours between 8am-3pm. Commit for a week, a month, or all year long, it's up to you! Your lunch is on us.

Join a committee! We've got a few, take your pick. There's always room for your area of expertise and enthusiasm.

Chaperone a "Going Out"! It's like an adventure and an education in one short day.

You can donate time or dollars to fulfill your family's annual commitment of 40 volunteer hours. Log your hours on our website or in the office. Direct volunteering questions to Mishawn Nelson: mnelson@lcmcs.org.
