Artes Vitae

Little ideas growing up into very big things.

Let's talk about conferences.

Perhaps your day looks something like this: wake up, help your household rise and shine, gather together the raiments and arrangements the day demands and shunt everyone out the door. You kiss your child(ren) adios, and off they trot to school.

All day you work on the turning gears of your life, greasing this wheel and building that cog, doing the things that you are uniquely skilled and trained to do.

After school, you pick up your (probably hungry) child and do the dinnertime/sports/music/chores juggle until bedtime. Somewhere in there, you ask your bright and budding scholar, 'How was your day?'
Conferences are the time to get a more complete answer to that question, and more. Learn about the robust and complex ecosystem of your child's days at school, and get a clear picture of the steps ahead.

To make it as easy as possible for you to schedule your conferences, we are calling upon the impeccable organizational skills of our marvelous maven of moxie, Alex.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is email her ( with the details of your preferred 20 minute conference time on the 2nd or 3rd of November, she will find a place for you. Simple.

In other upcoming news, there are some dates to get on your calendar -- notably some Runtober deadlines this week, the Boo Ball, MAC Coffeehouse, and our 5th Annual Explore Art event in December.

We best get busy. And, as always, thank you for reading.

Kitchen News
The November Menu is LIVE! Order lunches at

deadline for next week is midnight tonight.

Excellent news: we ran some algorithms and calibrated our machines so that no one has to order morning snack anymore. We've got the numbers dialed by now, thank you for helping us get our wingtips off the ground, we'll take it from here.

The good news keeps growing: our program is the proud recipient of a $2500 Farm to School grant! We are putting this money towards sourcing the responsible, local food providers we all love to love, so we can eat our way to a more delicious tomorrow.

As the old saying goes, a friend in need is a friend who will happily reward your help with a free meal. We're pretty sure it's something like that. At any rate, we want to make our meals as quickly and efficiently as possible, and we need YOU to help make it happen.

Can you commit to a regular time slot (or slots) each week? We would fall over ourselves in gratitude, and did we mention that lunch is on us?

Secret's in the sauce...
MAC  is making a community Cookbook! They are compiling recipes from the school community, the greater Damascus area, and any other society or social club you associate with.

Hopefully a recipe form has already made its way home to you, and you've started calling relatives near and far to get those old pot pie ingredients down in writing.

Extra forms are available at the front desk, which is -- incidentally -- where you can also drop off completed ones. Let's help MAC make this a big, joyful community effort!

Recipes due by
October 31, with hopes the Cookbook will be available in time for proper feasting during the Holidays.
