Four on the floor.

Anyone who has spent some years in the Willamette Valley is accustomed to our unconventional brand of winter.

Forty degrees and rainy easily gives way to gale force winds out of the gorge, followed by a week of false spring that has everyone packing up their woolens and planning spring hikes.

Far and away the rarest occurrence is a real snow -- enough to warrant boots and mittens, sleds, skis, and snowballs. For most children we know in this region, 'snow' is the most magical of winter words, and each snow day feels precious.
It can be a different story for parents at times, though. Last-minute schedule changes, late busses, communication issues, and stop-gap childcare can mar the wonderland beauty of our snow days.

Our school typically follows the same closure/delay schedule as the Gresham Barlow School District. Help your family prepare for contingencies as early as possible by signing up for GBSD Flash Alerts (must be renewed each school year), and keep a weather eye on your email -- we will post announcements about our own plans as soon as possible.

In the meantime, enjoy the snow while it lasts!

And, as always, thank you for reading.

Bits & Bobs
Current families will commit to enrollment intentions next year during conferences, March 1-2. Families of students in PDH will receive paper intention forms to return to school.

Sibling enrollment applications may be requested at the office for
new siblings entering Kindergarten.

Time is running out to purchase tickets for our Spring for Education Auction! This is our largest fundraiser of the school year, and one of our most stellar events, to boot. Don't miss out: get your tickets and join the fun!

Mark your calendars and invite all your friends: March 10, 10am-4pm, it's the Gresham Ford Drive 4 UR School fundraiser.  We can raise up to $8,000 for our school if 300 friends, family and community members complete a 10 minute test drive for Lewis & Clark Montessori.

Emergency Kits: Did you get the flyer?
One way I am showing my love for my children is by helping them prepare for the unthinkable... The Emergency Kits at school are a great way to do this. Don't forget to get your children's ID cards and $5 in to the office this month. Let's hope that by preparing we never need them.

Due to new requirements, we can no longer offer different prices for Lunch With Milk and Lunch Without Milk. As part of the National School Lunch Program, we must offer a full meal to all students. A 'meal' includes: Fruit, Veggie, Milk, Meat and Grain. All five components need to be offered to everyone to qualify for reimbursement.

Our Offer vs. Serve program allows students to choose at least three of the above items, so long as one of them is a vegetable. Your child may choose to drink milk (or not) as part of their school lunch. A la carte milk will still be available for those with home lunch.
Thank you for your understanding, please let us know your questions!

PTO Corner
For the month of February join us for Coffee Hour on Fridays at the Arrow Coffeehouse in Damascus after drop off. It's a relaxing experience complete with a child play corner. We look forward to seeing you there!
Join us March 3rd for a phenomenal workshop to combat bias. Lead by author, educator, and activist Katie Kissinger, this workshop focuses on creating inclusive organizations and communities.
"To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society."

- Theodore Roosevelt

Volunteer!
It's the butter to your bread.

Help out for the Auction! We have multiple roles for volunteers, see article above.

Prepare meals in the kitchen. Choose one or more days to come in for at least two hours between 8am-3pm. Commit for a week, a month, or all year long, it's up to you! Your lunch is on us.

Join a committee! We've got a few, take your pick. There's always room for your area of expertise and enthusiasm.

You can donate time or dollars to fulfill your family's annual commitment of 40 volunteer hours. Log your hours on our website or in the office. Direct volunteering questions to Mishawn Nelson: mnelson@lcmcs.org.
